Orion - How to create a New Account

See below for the steps to create a New Account in Orion:


  1. If you are not seeing an account in your version of Orion, you will need to create a case in the portal and confirm that we can view the account in Mutual's version of Orion. Once that is confirmed, you can move on to creating the accounts. 
  2. Go to your Dashboard Home Page > All Applications and choose New Accounts Center.


 2. On the left side under Tools, choose New Account Wizard. 



    3. For the Household you will add the below information:


  • Primary Representative (Should already be your Firm Name listed)
  • Household First Name
  • Household Last Name
  • Household Name (will auto-fill)
  • Household SS# - input dashes (Copy this for the next screen)
  • Choose Next on the bottom Right

 4. For the Registration you will add the below information:


  • Account Type (Registration Type)
  • Registration Name would be changed if it is a 529 Plan, or any other plan that has a different Registration Name from the Household Name. I.E.: Trust account, Business account, etc..
  • Date of Birth
  • Paste the SS# from the previous screen
  • Choose Next

5. For the Account/Billing you will add the below information:


  • Custodian and Fund Family will match (carrier for the account) I.E.: Jackson, American Funds, etc.
  • Management Style will automatically be there as Broker-Dealer
  • Account Number (make sure the account number you enter matches what Mutual has in their version of Orion or it will not link properly).
  • Choose Next until you get to 5 Review Input.
  • Double check what you entered is correct and click Next to Add the Account
 6. Once this screen comes up, under Account Status, choose Pending.




  • Right click on the Pending account and choose Edit Account





  • For all new created accounts, change Pending to Normal Downloading under the Account Status section
  • Choose Save on the top right
  • It will be removed from your Pending Screen, and you will now be able to see the New Account Shell that you created under Portfolio Audit (you need to refresh Port Audit first).

7. Now that the account has been created, you will need to contact your Orion Reconciliation Team for them to reconcile the account to show a value.
